The Lifestyle Change

Duncan Oldham

As many of you will know, I’ve been on a ‘lifestyle change’ for about a year now. During that time I’ve followed a low carb / keto diet and have lost close to 7 stone.

I was losing around 2 pounds a week on average and I was absolutely smashing it until a couple of months ago when my head dipped and that threw me off a little bit. I also headed off to New York for a couple of weeks and as anyone on a low carb lifestyle will tell you, when you’re living out of a suitcase in a hotel, it can be a real struggle finding foods and especially snacks, that are not loaded with carbs.

So does that mean I’ve fallen off the wagon? No, not at all. I’ve not gained. I’ve just plateaued because I have not been limiting my carbs to 20g a day. For a year I’d not consumed a single pint of Magners, I’d not eaten bread, potatoes or sweet things like ice cream. Recently though I’ve had all of those things. I think when your head’s down you just lose the determination.

I’ve been out multiple times recently. Day sessions, night sessions, dining out here and there, but I’ve enjoyed myself. It has been much needed and I’ve kinda looked at it as a recharge ahead of getting myself back on form.

There’s no way I’ll undo my hard work. I haven’t pigged out once, I’ve just not been as strict. I’m looking forward to another year of hard work and that starts with this post.
